Things to do with your loved one from a distance ♥♥♥

Watch a movie together.

Imagine a typical night in that you have had or would like to have with your partner...what better way to relax than crack out the popcorn, snuggle up together and stick on an awesome movie??

This timeless activity has been entertaining couples for decades and fortunately being in a long distance relationship doesn't have to stop you from enjoying it too! :D

Watching movies was one of Clark and my favourite things to do during our two years apart. There are various ways you can work it depending what you have available. For example:

  • If you both have a copy of the movie that you want to watch then it is as simple as setting up a voice or video call with your partner, pressing play at as close to the same time as possible and there you have it!

  • If just one of you has a copy then you can use a video call so that the other person can see it too. The picture for the other person might low quality but Clark and I used to do this a lot and it's not bad, trust me.

  • Maybe there's a movie that you'd both like to see but don't have copies of it. If so treat yourself to it, just as if you were together you might buy a movie to watch.

UK Husband, wife or civil partner visa laws finally changed!

A couple of years back the government in the UK decided that to combat the growing problem with forced marriages they would introduce a law which denies entry to a spouse or civil partner if the settled British citizen is under 21 years of age.

When Clark and I saw this law we despaired! With me being 4 years away from my 21st birthday at the time, it put a downer on all our plans as we realised the bloody (but well-meaning...I guess) government had placed an impenetrable barrier around me, stopping Clark and I from being able to have a life together. Cor blimey, talk about making things near hopeless! Not only did we have the distance, our youth and our lack of funds to contend with, now there was also the time span we had to be apart!

We were not the only ones. Over 5,000 genuine couples each year were denied their right to a married life. What really got my back up about this was that the number of genuine couples denied togetherness was 100 times more than the number of forced marriages prevented...okay, so slight exaggeration but just thinking about it makes my blood boil!

It was a denial of our human rights but what could we have done? We had to resign ourselves to long-term separation...

That was until the supreme court, the Red-Blue blur that came to our rescue, forced the government to change this blatant contradiction of human rights and so finally a piece of good news!

What do you think about the government's back-track? Does it affect you and your husband/wife/civil partner?

I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Trick them with Akinator, the web genius, the genie who reads your mind ...

I fell for this trick straight away and I'm sure that your loved one will too!

  1. First of all, go to this webpage: en.akinator.com
  2. Then click play. You will be asked to provide a few details before being able to play
  3. Tell your partner that you are able to read their mind and to prove it, ask them to think of a fictional or real character. Instruct them that you are going to be asking them some questions and they can only reply with on of 5 responses: Yes, Probably, I don't know, probably not, no.
  4. Ask them the questions that are generated by Akinator such as "Is your character real?" and then get them to answer one of the 5 responses.
  5. Click on the response that matches your partner's answer.
  6. Akinator will then ask another question which you in turn ask your partner.
  7. Continue in this way until Akinator comes up with a guess at who your partner is thinking of. If it's right, prepare for your partner's amazement! But in the unlikely case that it's not, Akinator will continue asking questions and you might still be able to wow your loved one.

This is available as an app too!

Have a romantic dinner date through Skype(or another video-calling platform)

This is a great way to celebrate a special occasion such as a birthday or anniversary or maybe you are just feeling particularly romantic one evening. Whatever the reason, you are sure to spend a fantastic evening together!

To really create the impression that your loved one is sitting across from you and to create a really romantic atmosphere, why not try a few of these ideas?

  • Buy the same table cloth from the same store (if possible)
  • Each prepare the same meal
  • Eat by candle-light
  • Buy the same bottle of wine/champagne (if possible)
  • have some romantic music playing that reminds you of good times you have had
Bon Appetit!

Video calling

There exists a multitude of different video-calling applications that you can use to talk to your loved-one. I'm sure that if you are having a long-distance relationship, chances are you are already using one of these but it may be worth trying some of the other ones out there.

Here are some of them:

  • Skype
  • MSN
  • Fring
  • Tango
  • Video call for FaceBook
  • Yahoo messenger
  • icq messenger

Play online multi-player games together

Playing online games is a great way to relax and unwind with your lover. Long distance relationships are accompanied by many difficult emotions such as missing the other person, impatience and frustration to name but a few. That's why playing together offers an invaluable distraction.

If you both have an iPod touch/ iPhone or both an android smartphone then finding online games to play is really easy! I'm not too sure about android (Clark and me used to use iPod) but here is a list of iPod games that my partner and me spent many happy hours playing (I imagine a lot of these are available on android too :).

  • Tap Tap Revenge 4
  • Link4
  • Tic Tac Toe online
  • Modern Combat Sandstorm
  • Uno
  • Warfare incorporated
  • FarmVille
  • N.O.V.A 2
